Aan Khalil
I am currently pursuing my Psy.D in Counseling Psychology. I joined Treat NYC as an extern in the fall of 2023 and am now a Clinical Intern.
In 2023, I found myself a doctoral student, wife, therapist, and first-time mother to a beautiful girl. These experiences and challenges, along with coming to America as an immigrant and becoming an Arab American woman, have given me the cultural competence and sensitivity to work with various people, including other immigrants.
Diversity is the beauty of therapy. Working with people of different backgrounds, cultures, socioeconomic statuses, occupations, genders, and ages made me competent in this field. Being fluent in Arabic has also allowed me to connect with and reach out to additional clients who may not have done so on their own, something I understand very well.
My approach to therapy revolves around evidence-based techniques rooted in psychodynamic theories and cognitive behavioral therapy. Using these techniques, I have been able to work with various populations, such as those suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and neurodivergence. Additionally, I see each client as unique and work with them individually to formulate sessions and treatments catered to their unique needs.
My goal as a therapist is to gain a positive therapeutic relationship with each client. Other goals I keep in mind during therapy include being an active listener, providing psychoeducation about positive therapeutic experiences, erasing stigma toward treatment, and encouraging psychological wellness so that all other life aspects fall into place according to how each client sees fit.
Please contact me if you'd like to talk. I am happy to provide a free consultation to learn about your needs and discuss a potential therapeutic plan. I look forward to seeing you in my virtual office!
