About Treat NYC
Hi. I am Dr. Beth King, and I am a clinical psychologist with over thirty years experience working with kids, teens, parents, families, couples, and just plain old regular adults. I founded TREAT NYC about 10 years ago, after working individually and in groups with many children and adults over lots of years. I wanted to broaden our scope so that we could help more of the many people who have not found life all that easy. At TREAT NYC we’re deeply committed to respecting and supporting diversity in all its many forms.
Maybe you’ve just had bad luck in your life. Maybe people have treated you really badly, as a child or as an adult. Maybe you’ve met up with discrimination, misunderstanding, systemic injustices. And, maybe you just don’t feel comfortable in your own skin or feel like you just don’t fit in. All of these versions of trauma can manifest themselves as anxiety, depression, panic, anger, substance abuse, eating disorders, or just a kind of dull listlesness or empty feeling inside. Whatever it is, we’re here to help.
At TREAT NYC, we work integratively, which means we combine longer term depth-oriented psychodynamic work (integrating an attachment focus as well as nervous system regulation) with shorter-term skills like DBT or breath work that can get you comfortable faster while we dig into the underlying issues. We see most of our clients either once or twice a week, depending on their needs and schedule. We absolutely believe in the importance of looking at how your past has impacted you. All of our staff like to combine creative, movement, and arts-oriented approaches with talk therapy. We also really like digging into the mind-body stuff that can affect how you feel, can help you to heal, and can help you to stay calm and focused. Everything we do is based in solid scientific research. That’s how you can change the way your life is going, and heal from old injuries.
