Faryal Fatima

Faryal Fatima is currently doing Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Adelphi University's Derner School of Psychology. Faryal is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-2). She enjoys working with adults (men & women) and older adults with substance/alcohol use, anger management, anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, grief, self harm/suicidal ideation, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She enjoys working with children assisting them with games as a form of treatment. What amazes her is how play and social interaction can simultaneously play the role of education and therapy. Faryal has experience in individual and group therapy in outpatient/ inpatient and women shelter. She also worked with incarcerated individuals for 2 years. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness. Faryal is a South Asian woman well-versed in cultures from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Having been raised in these diverse cultures and societies, she has a good appreciation of these societies' principles, cultural practices, and unique systems. Such cultural knowledge helps to understand children and families from such backgrounds better and respond to their specific issues more efficiently. This insight allows her to establish friendly relationships with working partners to demonstrate respect for the clients and always consider cultural sensitivity. Faryal believes that clients are the expert of their lives and she is only the guide along the way.
